In 2016, someone that I grew up with committed suicide. He had actually been one of the few people with whom I’d shared my own mental health struggles.
Realizing how isolating depression is, I hoped that by being more open, I might help even one person feel less alone. I gave this speech at UCLA three months after the funeral.
My Hidradenitis Suppurativa DIagnosis
Hidradenitis Suppurativa is a chronic auto-inflammatory disease that causes painful lesions in the skin.
It disproportionately affects Black women, but is not widely known about in our community.
It even gets a red squiggly line when I type it on this page!
